Desiccants available on the market
Following the last information of European Commission, except the blue (Cobalt Dichloride), no one of them allow desiccant breathers to work correctly. ECHA is the official department of European Commission, in charge of the application of European regulations and directives concerning chemical substances: prioritisation_cobalt_dichloride

GOOD NEWS for DESCASE breathers end users and for DESCASE products. Dated June 15th 2011, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency, official department of CEE) recognises et confirms:
1. Dichlorure de Cobalt, used in DESCASE breathers as humidity indicator, is the only efficient colour additive that can be used.
2. Use of other chemical colour additive, as do few other is not technically suitable (alternatives to cobalt dichloride - e;g; other metal salts, such as iron or copper salts, as proposed by france did not allow the same range of humidity indication and therefore these substances were not considered to be technically suitable).

General data on desiccants
-Absorbs 25% of its weight in moisture
-High dust yield, requiring expensive packaging to minimize dust
-Absorbs 22% of its weight in moisture
-Difficult clean up packaging damaged
Silica Gel -Best Choice
-Absorbs 40% of weight in moisture
-Absorb moisture up to 220°F (104°C) -most efficient up to 100°F (38°C)
-Yields practically no dust particles, making it a good choice for being packaged with dry food or electronic items
-Several chemical options to indicate moisture with colour.
